74F.  Definitely felt cooler out there.  I had no excuse not to do some 800s as this was one of the coolest mornings we've had in months.  So, 6 x 800 with 400m active recoveries.

First, I did 8.12 miles easy, 8:06 AP.  Then rolled right in to the 800s.

3:12, 3:02, 3:01, 2:58, 3:00, 2:53.  Average was 3:01 (6:04 pace).  Too bad about the first one messing up the average.  I don't look at my watch at all during intervals until each one is complete, so I porked the first one.  The recovery 400s ranged from 2:02-2:19.  Afterward, cooled down 2 miles and change to get home.  7:49/mile for the run as a whole.

Pretty successful morning, now I get a day off to soak up the workout after another 70-mile week.  1 more week until my marathon training plan begins...

I agree, nice finishing touch to a great running week. I think it's good not to look at your watch in the middle of those intervals -- good practice for memorizing how a particular pace feels.

Great 800's Joe! I think it is good to run those by feel, but I am lousy at judging pace! I actually look at my watch every 100 meters & adjust my pace if necessary. Come to think of it, I have not done a track workout in ages ... maybe I will do a short one tomorrow to tune up for Monday!

IJR - the funny thing is that not much will change since I've been using many of the same ideas from the plan

Rye - I guess it's really all marathon training

April - Well, bombed is a good thing where I work, and you'll definitely never hear me say I blew anything

Dan - It's a good thing I enjoy training - 19 weeks to go...

Flat - the hardest thing is to convince my legs it's ok to run that fast

JG - I've tried looking at the Garmin in the past but it's not too accurate on the track for me

I just look at lap time on my Garmin at the track. Target 10k pace is 24/100, so I know I should hit 24, 48, 1:12, 1:36, 2:00, 2:24, 2:48, 3:12. I am usually at 22 seconds the first one, so it helps to know to slow down a little by looking! 5k is 22/100 ... maybe one day it will be 20!
