76F, 80%.  Geez, everytime it drops a few degrees we get some humidity with it..

Anyway, I needed a good laugh so I figured I'd try the last 6 @ GMP today (7:03).

First, a brisk 6-mile warmup @ 7:56 AP.

Then 6 GMP @ 6:56 AP.  Splits were 6:57, 7:05, 6:55, 6:54, 7:01, 6:40.

7:26 AP for all 12.

Weeeell, let's face it - GMP is pretty much tempo pace right now.  Yeah, I know it'll get cooler but there's still a ways to go before 7-minute miles = MP.  Overall, not a bad run though.  I had to start today at 4:30am so the run was completely in the dark -- with the Garmin 405 I have to lock the bezel in the summertime due to the sweat flying...that means I can't turn on the light and use it for pacing.  The only glimpse I get of my pace is when it beeps each mile and lights up.  No street lights where I run.  So one positive takeaway is that I (more or less) set the right pace without looking.  Just wish it wasn't such a miserable-feeling pace.

Ha ha... it was 70 degrees and pretty low humidity here today ... Sorry I had to rub it in a little. The bad thing is I wasn't running but biking. Temperatures don't seem to matter much when biking. I think I'm actually going to get cold while biking if the temperature is below 70.

My Garmin (old style 305) lights up if I press the power button once. Doesn't your new version do that?

Oh BTW...80% humidity is pretty normal for here :-) All in all it was still a nice run for you!

From SlowJoe on Fri, Aug 26, 2011 at 11:06:25 from 132.3.53.68

To light up the 405 you have normally have to touch the bezel with 2 fingers, but I have to lock it when it's hot (so the bezel won't work) because my sweat starts to set it off after a few miles if I don't. Then it goes haywire the rest of the run. I wish we'd gotten the older ones to start out with - I like actual buttons more.

80% humidity is rare here lately, but I looked it up and it only made the heat index 77 so still a cooler morning (although not 70!)

My Garmin would be worthless if water set it off. I sweat like a pig...! Wait a minute, I've heard pigs don't sweat..?

From SlowJoe on Fri, Aug 26, 2011 at 11:12:01 from 132.3.53.68

Yeah I don't think my wife appreciates the solid trail of sweat leading to the shower when I get back. Or the soaking wet spot on the carpet where I stretch out a little. At least we can't be called pigs if they don't sweat.

10 degrees cooler and something will snap and suddenly 6:50 pace will get very, very comfortable. Just wait--you'll see!

Nice job Joe- I have a 405cx so I hear ya. When I run pre-5 am, sometimes I turn the sensitivity at it's lowest setting so I can have some light. Either that or I program the Garmin to angry beep at me if I am going to fast or slow with the custom range settings.

Humid? The good thing about Ohio is we are already cooling off- the bad was May-August and the 90 out of 98 days was 100%. That being said- April is right, you are gearing up for some great speeds!

From SlowJoe on Sat, Aug 27, 2011 at 19:43:34 from 75.109.104.60

April - hopefully so -- I have a bunch of long GMP runs ahead that could get pretty ugly otherwise!

Dan - thanks for the tip on the Garmin, didn't know you could leave the light on low like that. And yeah, humidity has certainly never been the issue here - just icing on the misery cake every once and awhile.

Technology is great! We runners are geeks. Nice run joe... How do you feel about your training?

From SlowJoe on Sun, Aug 28, 2011 at 10:40:19 from 75.109.104.60

Rye - not sure what to think yet - I'm glad I've held up well during the highest mileage of my life but I still constantly wonder if I'm doing too much, not enough, etc. Ask me again on January 15!
