1 mile in ~9 minutes on the treadmill.  Boom.

I could still feel the spot on my foot and it did seem to slightly increase its presence as I ran.  It's one of those things that if I didn't know what it was, I might lace em up and run 6 miles on concrete tomorrow.  Walking around now, there don't seem to be any ill effects and there were no NSAIDs in my system, so those are positives, but I think I might give it another week.  I really, really, really can't have this happen again.

I felt bad for the rest of my legs...It was almost like my puny little muscles were ready to jump out of my skin, they wanted to run so bad.  I did crank it down to 8:00 pace for the last quarter mile, but still, sooooo unsatisfying!

Did the doctors have any suggestions for suggested wait time?

Take a look at Ryan Vail's blog if you get a chance/are interested. He had a reaction or fraction, came back, got another one, but managed to get into a pretty interesting 10ish week block of training before the Olympic Trials. He did some fairly consistent and aggressive cross training.

Doctors said 4 weeks, about 2.5 weeks ago. They probably nailed it (was a sports medicine clinic) but I always figured they pad those timelines a bit...maybe not.

Do you know if he re-injured the same spot, or got a different one? I guess I can stop being lazy and go look myself. Thanks for the suggestion.

Different spots. Good.

Nice work on that 2 minute quarter :-)

Glad you are feeling better. Be smart. But don't listen to EVERYTHING doctors say. A few of my peers from college are doctors now, and it wasn't that long ago that they were sticking knives into a toaster to see what would happen.

Haha. Good point. My students always say they trust doctors. I mean I don't want anyone else operating on my brain (maybe not Ben Carson) but with running injuries you realize that science is a bit weak theoretically. Argument with trainer at Purdue:

"I don't remember when I injured my knee."

"Then it's not an injury."

"Alright, suckah, it hurts and I need to run."

This guy had absolutely no theory of overuse injury or that cause is never singular.

Good to see you posting a run. It is a tough thing when your mind and body want to do one thing and yet part of your body says NO. It is a good sign that you did not have ill effects walking.

Yeah, I've never listened much to doctors either...usually just go by feel, but they probably guessed this one correctly.

At first, during that visit I just saw the resident, not the guy I signed up for and who came recommended. Naturally I was a little agitated because I had a lot of varying questions, and the answers were really wishy-washy, and felt like guesses or snippets from Web MD or something.

Fortunately, afterward, the old experienced doc came in (after the resident got some practice, I guess) and he exuded confidence with his guesses. I suppose that's the part they don't teach in med school.

exuding confidence with our guesses -- that's the secret to life, right?!

I've pretty much ignored my ortho surgeon friend who tells me not to run, though he is a good sport about it because I represent potential income to him. But I admit I rewound the TV at the start of the Super Bowl to re-watch all the previous MVPs limping out there. It was unbelievable, almost all of them except for the last 4 or 5 were barely ambulatory. I don't think football is analogous to running, but it does show that we are perfectly capable of ruining our joints and tendons. So at least I say thank you when I get unsolicited advice from MDs.
